Trumpeter and bandleader Mark Braud takes center stage on Down in New Orleans – The Music of Gregg Hill, a dynamic new album celebrating nine original compositions by acclaimed jazz composer Gregg Hill. Releasing November 13, 2026, on Cold Plunge Records, the album features inventive arrangements by Braud and pianist Meghan Swartz.
Joining Braud and Swartz are some of New Orleans' finest musicians: Roderick Paulin and Rex Gregory on saxophones, Charlie Halloran on trombone, Grayson Brockamp on bass, and Peter Varnado on drums. Special guests Bruce Brackman on clarinet, Ronell Johnson on sousaphone and trombone, and Andriu “Yano” Yanovski on organ add even more New Orleans character to the music.
Recorded at Esplanade Studios in New Orleans, the album blends the city's rich jazz heritage with soulful improvisation, swinging grooves, and spirited second-line rhythms. The result is a fresh and exciting interpretation of Gregg Hill's remarkable music.
